KN Technical Ltd was founded by experienced industry professionals who had worked for UK steel fabricators for many years and grew frustrated with the lack of quality technical resources available in the industry. Our aim is to assist our clients with 3D steel detailing while offering technical support and commercial tracking of projects through the design stages.

We focus on variation tracking, giving our clients a commercial and contractual edge, allowing you to easily claim additional monies owed.

Kevin Thompson Director

Kevin Thompson served an apprenticeship as a Mechanical fitter and quickly progressed into an Engineering drawing office working on the drawing board producing detail drawings for the telecommunications industry, and industrial units.

Having a keen knowledge for technology Kevin moved into producing AutoCAD drawings which in turn lead him to working on the infancy of 3D modelling software.

Having spent over 10 years in the drawing side of construction, which included 5 years heading up a drawing office, Kevin progressed into Contracts Management, quickly becoming a Senior Project Manager in the construction industry heading up large teams of understudies and site operatives on prestigious projects such as Westfield shopping centres in East London and on the 2012 Olympic site.

Having a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of steel construction from Project Management, Site Survey requirements, Technical, Design, Detail drawings, procurement, fabrication and installation, Kevin can apply his wealth of knowledge to any detailing project to ensure an end result that proves fruitful to his clients both from a programme, cost and quality aspect.

Neil Smith Director

Neil Smith trained as a Draughtsman 'on the board' in the early '90s, quickly moving to 3D CAD as an early adopter in 1993, completing an HNC in Civil Engineering (Structural Bias) in 1995.

Neil has worked for UK fabricators directly (both large and small) for over 30 years as a Draughtsman, Drawing Office Manager & Technical Director. Neil has used Tekla software continuously since 1996, both detailing himself and managing detailing resources. Neil has a wide breadth of experience across most sectors of the steel industry with specialisms in steel detailing, design & detailing management and technical co-ordination of construction projects.

Neil has an excellent overall knowledge of the Steel Industry and is very commercially aware, whilst maintaining a hands-on approach to all things CAD / technically related, making for efficient and practical solutions.
